This weekend Don and I are spending time with friends at the beach. It will be our first time travelling overnight since we started our new eating plan, and I’m a little nervous about the challenges we’ll face. We are just starting our third week, so not quite to the point of new habits yet.

So far we haven’t been snacking or eating dessert. We’ve been faithful to avoid sugar, dairy, gluten. Don has even stopped drinking coffee, and reported feeling more energy every day! We know these we-don’t-eat-them-any-more foods will be around this weekend, it will be mighty tempting! Will we stay the course or allow temptation to lure us off track? Do we have what it takes to be successful?

In ourselves, no way! But with God’s help, absolutely! That is, IF we ask Him for help. Then it’s up to us to choose what we know is right. We don’t have to tough it out and be self-sufficient. He is there with us every.step.of.the.way.

God has been faithful to Don and I since we started. He guided us in the right direction with our menu, let us enjoy results, and kept the cravings down. This was one of the easiest detox starts I’ve ever had, and I know that’s been His grace.

What might help is to view this as an eyes-on-the-prize situation. I want to get to Sunday’s trip home and be able to say to Don, “we did so well, no regrets!” I don’t want to lose a few days to take off the weight I gained and go through another mini-detox to get back to where I am now. To make that happen, we need to stay the course. So if I focus on where I want to be Sunday, that might give me more motivation to make a good choice in the moment.

God wants all of us to be healthy so that we can meet life’s challenges head-on with energy and a clear mind. If you ask, He’ll guide you on food choices that are right for you and your family. There are definitely basics to healthy eating, but only God knows the right plan for you.

And only God can give you the grace to be successful! Just ask.

No test or temptation that comes your way
is beyond the course of what others have had to face.
All you need to remember is that God will never let you down;
he’ll never let you be pushed past your limit;
he’ll always be there to help you come through it.
(1 Corinthians 10:13, MSG)

What are situations you find difficult when you’re trying to eat right? How do you stay on course? Would love to hear your ideas!
